In this ‘Sussex Sounds’ we speak to Joe from ‘I Feel Fine’ - an Emo band that’s totally OK with being labelled an Emo band.

WHAT’S NEW WITH YOU GUYS?

Much like everyone else we're just waiting for things to return to normality. We were due to be wrapping up the recording of our first LP this week however for now we've had to put that back until October. Fingers crossed we'll be planning the release next year.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY LISTENING TO?

I've been spending a lot of time listening to Dave Bazan/Pedro the Lion recently. Loved the last record Phoenix.

WHAT’S THE MOST MEMORABLE SHOW YOU’VE PLAYED?

Had some really memorable shows in France and Germany for both good and bad reasons but our best so far was probably at this little French bar in Nevers when we toured with Wild Cat Strike. The perfect combination of a packed gig, lovely promoter/bar owners and one drunk local that tried to show us all his junk.

WHAT’S THE STRANGEST SHOW YOU’VE PLAYED?

Probably the time we played in someone's garage to a handful of their neighbours and after half an hour when we ran out of songs they wanted some of their donations back.

WHERE’S GOOD FOR PRE/POST-GIG GRUB?

Definitely Moyos Burgers on Preston Street.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE LOCAL SUSSEX MUSIC SCENE?

Pretty spoilt for choice down here, plus there's about a million bands in Brighton and a few of them are actually really really good. On the flipside, I'm definitely a bit worried about losing local venues/spaces to the virus. Especially as we've already seen a lot of closures in recent years, even before Covid (RIP Sticky Mikes). I think a lot of people are ready and waiting to put back into the local scene and start seeing bands as soon as it's safe so hopefully we'll still have places like the Hope and Ruin, Green Door Store and Small Pond when it does. In the meantime if you can, do your bit and donate a few quid here https://saveourvenues.co.uk/#/.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE/MOST CHERISHED BIT OF GEAR?

Not a big gear nerd but as soon as I was old enough to take out some debt I got myself a lovely Blonde American Tele that's served me well for the last decade. People who know more about gear than me have said it sounds nice.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE ALBUM?

I'm going to be that 30 year old white man cliche and say Pink Moon by Nick Drake.

IF YOU COULD INVITE THREE MUSICIANS, ALIVE OR DEAD, TO A DINNER PARTY WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHAT WOULD YOU TALK ABOUT?

I don't like to meet people that I look up to on account of my beige personality so I'd probably pick three very rich musicians and try asking each of them for some money. I bet if either Bono, Geldoff or Barlow saw where I lived they'd definitely pull out a big cheque. We'd probably just talk about how poor I am.
